‘The Kashmir Files’, a film on the exodus of Hindus from the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley, might be banned in multi-racial Singapore because the movie has been assessed to be “past” the city-state’s movie classification pointers, a media report stated on Monday.

The authorities have assessed the Hindi-language movie to be “past” Singapore’s movie classification pointers, stated the Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) in a joint assertion with the Ministry of Tradition, Neighborhood and Youth (MCCY) and the Ministry of Dwelling Affairs (MHA).

“The movie might be refused classification for its provocative and one-sided portrayal of Muslims and the depictions of Hindus being persecuted within the on-going battle in Kashmir,” the authorities informed Channel Information Asia.

“These representations have the potential to trigger enmity between completely different communities, and disrupt social cohesion and non secular concord in our multiracial and multi-religious society,” they stated.

Below the movie classification pointers, “any materials that’s denigrating to racial or non secular communities in Singapore” might be refused classification, they added.

The Vivek Agnihotri-directed film, being screened in India since March to combined critiques, relies on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley the Nineties resulting from terrorism.

The movie, written and directed by Agnihotri, stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles.
